Wednesday Season 2 Trailer

Wednesday Season 2 Release Date | Wednesday Season 2 Trailer

Is Wednesday Season 2 coming? Another week, another major milestone for Wednesday. The show starring Jenna Ortega as the mysterious and spooky daughter of the Addams family has reached 1 billion hours viewed, according to Netflix. It’s only the platform’s third title to hit this number within 28 days after its premiere — Stranger Things Season 4 and Squid Game are the other two to have achieved this feat.

The first season ended with a big Wednesday. Not only did the psychic teen save Nevermore Academy and its outcasts from the resurrected Joseph Crackstone, but she revealed the true identity of Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci) — who had been behind much of this season’s terror. And while most of the mysteries from the show’s eight episodes have been solved, some big questions remain.

Who is Jenna Ortega?

Jenna Ortega is Gen Z’s official scream queen, and her new Netflix series, Wednesday, is more than enough proof that she perches upon the throne. Her take on the iconic Addams Family character not only had fans in a frenzy on TikTok but gained critical acclaim. In season one of the Netflix hit, Wednesday discovers her psychic abilities, which lead to her preventing a killing spree that has terrorized the town surrounding her school. She also makes friends and enemies along the way as she investigates a supernatural mystery involving her parents, Gomez and Morticia Addams, 25 years ago.

What About Wednesday Second Season?

A second season of Wednesday from showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and director Tim Burton has not been announced. But we are hopeful for the show’s renewal, and eagerly awaiting new developments for the relationships that Wednesday has formed across this season. Of course, there’s the matter of Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), the seemingly harmless “normie” who became romantically interested in Wednesday but turned out to be the monstrous Hyde she had been after. Tyler, in his Hyde form, fought a wolved-out Enid (Emma Myers) in Wednesday’s final episode and was defeated. We don’t know what’s next for the character, but his last scene of waking up in a car, albeit in chains, definitely left the door open for a return.

Will there be a Wednesday Season 2?

However, given the show’s popularity and record viewing figures as detailed above, a second installment certainly seems likely. What’s more, speaking to Variety, showrunner Miles Millar said that he and co-showrunner Alfred Gough have established a structure for what they want to do moving forward, explaining: “For us, it’s always looking at the future and when we sit down to create a show, it’s looking at multiple seasons, ideally.” He continued: “That’s never expected, but that’s the anticipation that hopefully, the show is successful. So you always lay out at least three or four seasons’ worth of potential storylines for the characters.

In addition, speaking to Empire about the future of the show, co-creator Gough said: “Miles and I are talking amongst ourselves about it. There’s definitely more that you can explore in the world of the Addamses.” Meanwhile, star Jenna Ortega – who plays the titular Wednesday – told NME that she has “no idea” if the show will come back. We’ll have to keep our fingers crossed that the doors of the Nevermore Academy open once again!

When Will the Second Season of Wednesday Come out?

Wednesday has not been renewed yet, but we are keeping a close eye on updates from Netflix about Season 2. It’s a massive hit, so we fully expect it will be renewed. We all gave thanks to the Addams family since the first season of Wednesday dropped right in time for Thanksgiving. However, there’s no word from Netflix on the renewal for season 2 just yet.

In a December 14 interview with Variety, Netflix executive Peter Friedlander briefly commented on the potential of a sophomore season. “You may know what I’m going to say — but I have nothing to confirm at this time,” Friedlander, who heads the streamer’s U.S. and Canada scripted series, said. “I am optimistic about Wednesday. We’ll leave it at that.” We, too, are optimistic about a second season. And it seems we can hold out hope that we’ll return to Nevermore Academy, as co-creator Alfred Gough recently told Empire, “Miles and I are talking amongst ourselves about it. There’s definitely more that you can explore in the world of the Addamses.”

In a November 2022 interview with Variety, Gough and Miller teased that they’ve laid out three or four seasons of the series in hopes of it getting renewed. “For us, it’s always looking at the future, and when we sit down to create a show, it’s looking at multiple seasons, ideally. That’s never expected, but that’s the anticipation that hopefully, the show is successful,” Millar told the publication, confirming that they have a “pretty clear runway of what they want to do in future seasons.”

The first season of Tim Burton’s highly anticipated Netflix series was recently released on November 23, 2022, so there’s no telling when or if there will be a second season. The show had a record-breaking debut week, according to Deadline, surpassing 341 million hours viewed. But it will have to be greenlit by the streaming service in order to start production on another season.

Hows is Season 2 Linked with Season 1?

The first season of Wednesday took viewers into the world of Wednesday Addams during her time as a student at Nevermore Academy. She discovers her psychic abilities, attempts to solve a chilling mystery involving her parents, and balances relationships with sirens, werewolves, and vampires at her new school.

At the end of the season, she discovers that her coffee shop crush and the Sheriff’s son, Tyler, is actually the Hyde monster who committed merciless murders at Nevermore. She also found that the school’s botany professor, Marilyn Thornhill, is actually a woman named Laurel Gates, who was believed to have died years prior. She sought to get revenge on the Outcasts who murdered her family and was the Hyde master who controlled Tyler and hypnotized him into his monstrous form. Wednesday and her frenemy, Bianca, ultimately defeat Laurel and her evil accomplices. However, Wednesday isn’t totally in the clear. When her friend, Xavier, gifts her a cell phone, she receives a threatening message that reads, “I’m watching you” with a gif of a knife going into her head. It’s likely that this is a setup for the plot of season two if the series gets renewed by Netflix.

What Will Happen in Wednesday Season 2?

We mentioned loose strings and, boy, were they left flapping in the breeze. Wednesday’s discovery that her boyfriend was the monster that was terrorizing Nevermore is the kind of heartbreak she didn’t seem to revel in, despite her penchant for pain. As a double dose of betrayal, he was being controlled by teacher favorite Ms. Thornhill, who turned out to be a bitter normie who had an axe to grind with the outcasts. We doubt that Tyler will continue to be her controlled ‘pet’, but we’re almost certain he escaped, and even more sure that he’ll resurface in Wednesday’s life. A friend, lover, or foe, though, is yet to be determined, however, Tyler actor Hunter Doohan certainly has his theories on the fate of his character.

When it comes to which version of Tyler good or bad, we could see in season two that his remark about his season one arc does shed some light. “I think he was being controlled by Miss Thornhill,” said Doohan. “Then he had to go manipulate Wednesday to carry out their plan and I think he did a pretty good job with it.” If he was indeed being manipulated it could mean that redemption is on the cards for him. That is if he can shake Ms. Thornhill’s hold. However, there could be other villains worth keeping an eye on.

A few times, the show name-dropped the ominous presence of the Morning Songs, a cult-like group run by Bianca’s siren mother, capable of luring in new members. Bianca was coerced by her mother into agreeing to join them in order to strengthen their persuasive call. There’s definitely room and scope to elevate them to main villain status in season two.

One thing that certainly needs clearing up is the mystery texter. Not long after Xavier gifts her a brand-new phone, Wednesday receives a cryptic, threatening text message complete with stalker-y photos of herself. The sender, well that is unknown but it’s just the kind of danger that is sure to set Wednesday’s soul on gleeful fire. It’s also something that will certainly help churn the wheels of a season two story in motion.
